Launched globally and in Brazil with a much more mature proposal, the ASUS Zenbook Duo 2024 can catch anyone’s attention with its hybrid design.
With it, in addition to a traditional notebook, you also have a device with two screens to guarantee a complete workstation.
Not to mention that it has a touch screen, robust construction with military certification and support for a Stylus pen.
But, is it worth buying this “different” notebook from ASUS? Scroll down and come and discover the Zenbook Duo 2024 with us.
Design and construction
The ASUS Zenbook Duo 2024 is a 14-inch dual-screen notebook that has few competitors on the market, offering a tempting alternative for those looking to move away from traditional laptops.
The user can use this device with one screen on top of the other or in side-by-side mode. The ASUS Zenbook Duo 2024’s hinge is resistant and handles everyday movement well, despite breaking the notion of image continuity a little.
But of course that doesn’t bother much. Everything is a matter of custom.
The design of the ASUS Zenbook Duo 2024 also has some features that stand out and an example of this is the support built into the lower screen to keep the device firmly in place. See the image below:
Another important detail is that the keyboard on this device is very good and comfortable, as it is a standard size with perfect spacing between the keys.
While on top of the bottom screen, the keyboard connects via magnets and pins, ensuring a stable connection and the ability to charge it while in use.
If needed, the keyboard has a USB-C port for independent charging, but the general autonomy is good and the user shouldn’t be left stranded. The trackpad is relatively good. If necessary, the user can also use a virtual keyboard that can be accessed on the second screen.
It’s a good option for those times when the detachable keyboard is not available. As for weight, the ASUS Zenbook Duo 2024 appears to be heavier than standard, but it isn’t.
We’re talking regarding a laptop that weighs just 1.65 kg and is just 2 centimeters thick when closed. It’s a standard notebook, showing that ASUS did a great job on this device.
In addition, it also has military certification (MIL-STD-810H) for its construction to eliminate once and for all the fear of those who think the Zenbook Duo 2024 is fragile.
In terms of use, you can use it like a traditional notebook, with a keyboard above the lower screen, with the two screens free vertically or horizontally and the keyboard loose, in addition to presentation mode where it mirrors the content of one screen in the other.
Finally, ASUS sends the notebook and its charger in the box.
Screen and hardware
The ASUS Zenbook Duo 2024 has two 14-inch OLED screens with 2.8K resolution and a maximum brightness of 500 nits. In addition, this panel also delivers a 120 Hz refresh rate for those who like to game.
Another important highlight is, without a doubt, the touch sensitivity to use the notebook as a tablet, as well as the support for a stylus pen.
In general terms, the Zenbook Duo 2024 screens are able to deliver good color calibration and the OLED technology guarantees excellent contrast levels.
Still in multimedia, this laptop has a good sound system, by Harman Kardon, with Dolby Atmos certification, but it can distort a little at maximum volume.
Still, it is a sound quality that is within the standard of high-end notebooks. The 1080p webcam is not bad and helps a lot with work video calls, for example.
In ports, we have two USB-C in the Thunderbolt 4 standard, accompanied by USB-A, on the left side. On the right side, there is a P2 port for headphones and HDMI for connecting an external monitor.
In this model, there is no Ethernet port, but using a USB-C adapter it is possible to add this feature to the Zenbook Duo 2024.
For connectivity, the ASUS Zenbook Duo 2024 has dual-band Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3 for wireless accessories.
The tested unit has an Intel Core Ultra 9 185H processor, 32 GB of RAM and 1 TB of SSD storage. In general terms, this set can deliver good performance in daily browsing activities, document editing, the use of Artificial Intelligence applications and even in some games.
But, due to the lack of space inside the device’s body, it is possible to notice, at times, that the chipset is not being used in its entirety. Even more so when we take into account that graphics processing is done by the integrated Intel Arc and not by a dedicated card.
In practice, this ends up making the Zenbook Duo 2024 no longer a good option for gamers or designers. Therefore, the ASUS Zenbook Duo 2024 is a great computer for productivity and for lighter or casual games.
Still, it is necessary to “praise” ASUS’ good work on cooling, since the Zenbook Duo 2024 does not heat up too much thanks to the company’s solution of incorporating two heatsinks.
In terms of autonomy, the notebook presented good numbers, but it is not extraordinary, as we have seen in some MacBooks.
Using just one screen, you can work, browse and watch videos in an average of 6 to 7 hours. When using the second OLED screen, things change, and autonomy drops to 4 to 5 hours.
And, if the battery runs out, the 65W charging offers a full charge very quickly, delivering 60% in around 49 minutes of plugging in.
Software
Like many other notebooks on the market, the ASUS Zenbook Duo 2024 uses Windows 11 as its operating system.
In other words, a software that everyone already knows, but in this device there are some small modifications to make it easier to use with these two screens.
An example of this is that, when removing the physical keyboard, the second screen presents a virtual keyboard for typing using just this display.
The user also gains a multitude of options within the keyboard, being able to separate it into parts, use a virtual trackpad or even another application in the corner. Everything is very customizable.
In addition, there is also ASUS proprietary software for managing the device, as well as ensuring the necessary performance in some activities.
Startup is quick, but it is still possible to notice small bugs at times. An example of this is that, when removing the keyboard, the windows are left shaking due to the uncertainty of where to position them.
It’s a small flaw and will certainly be fixed in a future software update.
First impressions and prices
Is the ASUS Zenbook Duo 2024 worth buying? First, it must be said that, despite being listed on the official ASUS Brazil website, the device cannot be purchased yet.
Even so, its price starts at R$18,000 on sale. In other words, a considerably “salty” value, but which is in line with what Apple or other premium manufacturers charge for their notebooks, for example.
Leaving aside the price, we can say that the ASUS Zenbook Duo 2024 is a great notebook because it manages to deliver mobility for a two-screen solution.
It’s as if the user took that PC from the office, with two displays, and put it in their backpack to take home. But even so, it is necessary to point out that the Zenbook Duo 2024 is a solution designed for productivity and not for a gamer user, for example.
In short, the screens are of great quality, the processing power is good for use at work, the construction is resistant and robust and you have a complete workstation in your hands.
Now, we have to wait to find out when ASUS should make the Zenbook Duo 2024 available for purchase in Brazil. Since, as said before, on the website it is only possible to receive notification when it is available.
