Asunción celebrates its 487th anniversary and prepares projects for its revitalization

Asuncion, IP Agency.- The mayor of Asunción, Oscar Rodríguez, said that in coordination with the Executive Branch, large projects are being prepared to promote the revitalization of downtown Asunción.

“We are putting together a team to begin a radical change in the Historic Center in anticipation of the 500th anniversary of the founding of the capital city,” said the mayor in conversation with Paraguay TV. The Ministry of Public Works, the Office of the First Lady, the Ministry of Culture, and others are participating.

This will be added to projects already started to allow citizens to once again take control of the streets of the city centre, such as the Palmear Fair, which takes place every Saturday, and the renovation of the historic building of the Port of Asunción, which will function as a cultural centre.

A special edition of Palmear is being prepared for this Saturday 17th in honour of the children and a “Port Fair” in the renovated building.

Agenda for the foundation of Asunción

The main activities for the 487th anniversary of Asunción begin this Wednesday with a serenade to the “Mother of Cities,” starting at 7:00 p.m. in the Plaza de la Democracia.

The following will perform: Paiko, La Retroband, El Princi, Grupo Generación, Francisco Russo, Ricardo Flecha, Emilio García, Pablo Simón, Municipal Folklore Ensembles, Municipal Classical and Modern Ballet of Asunción, Spirit and Sound Orchestra, The Great Choir of Luque, Dance Company of the IMA, Javier Zacher, Funk`Chula, Susana Zaldívar, Andrea Valobra, Indio Rubio, among others.

On the other hand, the festive activities will take place from early hours on Palma Street, between 15 de Agosto and Ayolas, with “Palma Vy´a – Fundación de Asunción”, a fair that will last until 10 pm, with tourist circuits and activities for children. There will also be special offers in the emblematic bars and restaurants of the historic center of Asunción, aimed at historical and gastronomic tourism.
