A Astropad today announced an update to the Astropad Studio, an app that turns your iPad into a graphics tablet for Macs. The highlight of the new version is the networking feature that will reduce latency between devices.
In practice, everything happens over a P2P network (peer-to-peer) that will allow the iPad to connect directly to a Mac using a wireless connection — without the need for a router or cables. According to Astropad, this will cut latency in half, making users’ work more fluid.
Also according to the company, this function supports all the features available in Astropad Studio, including touch gestures, shortcuts and integration with Apple Pencil, which received subtle improvements in this version of the app. It should also be noted that it is possible to use a P2P connection even when there is no Wi-Fi network.
For now, the resource is restricted to those running macOS, that is, it is not possible (yet) to use the point-to-point connection between Astropad Studio and a PC, for example. Still, it works on iPads running iPadOS 13 (or higher) and a Mac starting with macOS 10.15.
The Astropad Studio update that has the P2P network feature is now available for everyone who already uses it.
Despite being free to download from the App Store, you need to subscribe to the tool to unlock all of its functions; the values are from BRL 75/month or R$490/something. If you prefer, you can also make the purchase through Astropad’s official website — there, you can still test the app for 14 days for free.
