Astronomical Phenomenon Review in 2022
Focused astronomical phenomena and observation results
January 4: Quadrantid meteor shower
In 2022, the maximum expected time and moonlight, near perfect conditionswas. When I observed for regarding 15 minutes on the veranda before dawn,I was able to see one meteor that draws a bright and long trail!
May 1: Jupiter and Venus close together
A phenomenon with high expectations due to the approach of two bright planets. I was planning to go camping with my “Sommelier of the Stars®” friends in a place with good observation conditions and take pictures with a good telescope and camera, but unfortunately it was raining and I mightn’t see it.
July 10: Occultation of delta Juba, a star in the forehead of Scorpio
I might see it through a telescope. Juba is a second-magnitude star, so it can normally be seen with the naked eye.
July 21: Mars eclipse
In Tokyo, I was able to see only the rising and appearing of the Moon while Mars was hidden by the Moon, but the altitude was too low, 7 degrees, so it was impossible to observe.
August 13: Perseid meteor shower
Originally, the peak time was expected to be 10:00 a.m., and the full moon was on the 12th, so the conditions were not good. Although I observed it the next day, I might not see the meteor.
November 8: Total Lunar Eclipse & Uranus Eclipse
There were many sunny places nationwide, and we were able to see the whole process, so it was a blast. I was worried if I might see the eclipse of Uranus during totality with a low-magnification telescope with a 60 aperture.I was able to see the whole process from the infiltration of Uranus to its appearance!
Uranus is positioned just below the moon during the totality, and this is a picture just before the infiltration.
“Total Lunar Eclipse & Uranus Eclipse” can be observed all over Japan on Tuesday, November 8!
December 1: Mars closest approach
Mars is not only visible on this day, so I enjoyed watching it gradually brighten in 2022. Until regarding January next year, it looks like it’s still going to be fun.
December 14: Geminid meteor shower
2022 was a successful year. Although there was a little moonlight, the maximum forecast was 22:00, which was a good time for observation.7 meteors were seen in 30 minutes of observation from around 22:00.3 of which were brighter than 1st magnitude!
On the 14th, the Geminid meteor shower will peak!Observe the year-end astronomical show
What are the top 3 astronomical phenomena in 2022?
In Nazology, we also introduced observational information on the “Super Moon” and the “Orionid meteor shower”, but that’s all for the astronomical phenomena and their results that had high expectations. So, here are my personal best 3 astronomical phenomena in 2022.
- Total Lunar Eclipse & Uranus Eclipse
- Gemini meteor shower
- Quadrantid meteor shower
