Astronauts return to Earth aboard a SpaceX capsule after 6 months on the Space Station

NASA astronauts Stephen Bowen and Warren “Woody” Hoburg, as well as Russian Andrei Fedyaev and Sultan al-Neyadi of the United Arab Emirates, the first person from the Arab world to spend an extended period in orbit, are back.

“Welcome home, Crew 6! After six months of science and discovery aboard the International Station, Crew 6 landed at 12:17 a.m. Eastern Time and will soon be picked up by recovery teams,” reads a post. from NASA on X.

Before leaving the space station, they confessed that they looked forward to taking hot showers, drinking cups of coffee and breathing in the ocean air. Their return was delayed a day due to poor weather conditions at the landing sites, but ultimately put on a spectacular sight in the middle of the night as the capsule sped through the sky above Cape Canaveral toward from a water landing near Jacksonville.

The astronauts said it was amazing to be back. “You have a room full of happy people here,” SpaceX Mission Control said over the radio.

SpaceX sent their replacements over a week ago.

Another crew swap will take place later this month with the long-awaited return of two Russians and an American who spent an entire year up there. Their stay was extended following their Soyuz capsule lost all coolant and a new craft had to be launched.

Between crew changes, the space station is manned by seven astronauts.
