“Association of Caribbean States (ACS) Expresses Solidarity with Venezuela: Insights from the IX Summit of Heads of State and Government”

This Friday, the member countries of the Association of Caribbean States (ACS) expressed their solidarity with Venezuela.

At the IX Summit of Heads of State and Government, held in Guatemala, Venezuela reiterated its demand to put an end to the more than 900 sanctions imposed by the United States (USA) government.

Raúl Li Causi, vice minister for the Caribbean of the People’s Power Ministry for Foreign Relations and president of the Executive Board of Banco del Alba, pointed out that in the highest meeting of the mechanism they approved the Declaration of Antigua, entitled “Innovating Integration through Sustainable Development of the Greater Caribbean”, refers to a press release from the Foreign Ministry.

In addition, the document establishes the necessary mechanisms to be able to face the challenges that arise in the region.

For this, the 25 Member States establish four strategic areas for development: air and maritime interconnection, fair trade, sustainable tourism and risk and disaster prevention.

The Bolivarian nation highlighted its unrestricted commitment to the ACS as a mechanism to promote technical and solidarity cooperation in the region.

The summit began last Monday, where various representatives met, where Venezuela expressed its willingness to “support regional, air and maritime interconnection, and also food sovereignty, two of our priorities.”

Between Tuesday and Wednesday, the executive secretary of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America-Peoples’ Trade Treaty (ALBA-TCP), Félix Plasencia, at the business meeting and on Wednesday the work of senior officials began to have ready for the approval of the presidents the Declaration of Antigua and other conclusive documents of the day.
