Assistance of KRW 1 million per month offered to Jeju tourism industry for unemployment issues

Jeju Island has taken an unprecedented step to address the labor shortage in the local tourism industry by offering a subsidy of 1 million won per month for hiring regular workers. The government plans to invest 850 million won in the “Jeju-type tourism industry plus job project” to overcome the labor shortage. The project aims to link the main industries of the region with government projects. This year’s support projects include the “Jeju Tourism UP Youth Leap Job Subsidy Project” and “Jeju Tourism Employee Youth Mutual Aid Project.” The former offers a subsidy of up to 1 million won per month for one year for new regular workers hired by companies in the tourism industry, while the latter supports the asset creation of newly hired regular workers when operating a tourism industry company in the province for more than one year. The businesses eligible for support include hotel and resort condominium businesses, souvenir and handicraft shops, amusement parks, and event agency businesses. The government has eased the qualifications for participating companies and will offer support until the budget is exhausted.

As the labor shortage in the Jeju tourism industry intensified, Jeju Island took out an unprecedented subsidy of 1 million won per month for hiring regular workers.

According to Jeju Island on the 9th, it decided to invest 850 million won in the ‘Jeju-type tourism industry plus job project’ to resolve the labor shortage in the tourism industry.

This is a new job support project that links the main industries of the region with government projects. This year’s support projects are operated as ‘Jeju Tourism UP Youth Leap Job Subsidy Project’ and ‘Jeju Tourism Employee Youth Mutual Aid Project’.

The Jeju Tourism UP Youth Leap Job Subsidy is a project that supports 1 million won per month for up to one year for the labor costs of new regular workers hired by companies in the tourism industry in the province.

The Jeju Tourism Youth Mutual Aid Project is a program that supports the asset creation of newly hired regular workers when operating a tourism industry company in the province for more than one year.

If you pay 2 million won in youth contributions, you can accumulate 4 million won in government subsidy for one year and get a total of 6 million won back.

Businesses subject to support include hotel business and resort condominium business, retail business of souvenirs, tourist handicrafts and decorative items, amusement park and theme park business, performance planning business (performance and production-related agency business), and art-related service business.

Botanical garden and zoo operation and natural park operation, ground passenger transportation, travel business, travel assistance and reservation service, sports and entertainment-related service, exhibition planning and event agency business can also apply.

Jeju Island said, “The restrictions on qualifications for participating companies have been significantly eased and support for companies has been expanded,” and “support is possible until the budget is exhausted.”

In conclusion, Jeju Island’s ‘Jeju-type tourism industry plus job project’ is a significant step towards resolving the labor shortage in the tourism industry. With a whopping subsidy of 1 million won per month, companies can now hire regular workers with ease. This job support project links the main industries of the region with government projects, thus making it a win-win situation for both parties. The two support projects, namely the Jeju Tourism UP Youth Leap Job Subsidy Project and Jeju Tourism Employee Youth Mutual Aid Project, are aimed at supporting companies operating in the tourism industry. We believe this initiative will go a long way in boosting the economy and creating more job opportunities for youths in Jeju Island.
