Biden does not feel that progress has been made in Washington and Beijing relations following Blinken’s visit

US President Joe Biden, Monday evening, expressed his belief that relations between the United States and China are on the “right path” but said he did not believe that a rare visit by Secretary of State Anthony Blinken to China had made progress.

Commenting on US-China relations, Biden said, “We are on the right track.” “I don’t feel like that has happened,” he added, in response to a question from reporters if he felt progress had been made.

But Biden praised the US Secretary of State and said he did a great job during his visit.

Blinken had paid a rare two-day visit to China, during which he met Chinese President Xi Jinping, Chinese chief foreign affairs official Wang Yi, and his Chinese counterpart, Chen Gang.

“The two sides have made progress and reached understandings on specific points,” Xi told Blinken, according to scenes broadcast by the official Chinese TV channel.

For his part, Blinken said during the last day of his visit to China: “I worked to convince China that we do not want to sever our relations and that we will not be complacent in protecting our interests.”

He continued, “Washington is ready to cooperate with China on issues in which the two sides enjoy mutual interests, including public health and food security,” welcoming the visit of Chinese officials to the United States.
