THE POLITICAL INDICATORS survey institute noted that 75 percent of Indonesian people were satisfied with the performance of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi). This is because Jokowi is able to control inflation.
“The majority are 75 percent satisfied with President Jokowi’s performance,” said Executive Director of Political Indicators Burhanuddin Muhtadi, in a survey presentation, Friday, October 4 2024.
In detail, 15.04 percent of the public felt very satisfied and 59.92 percent of the public were quite satisfied with President Jokowi’s performance. Then, there were around 20.21 percent who felt dissatisfied and 4.23 percent were not satisfied at all, then there were 0.60 percent of people who didn’t know/didn’t answer.

One factor in the rise and fall of satisfaction with the President’s performance is greatly influenced by the inflation rate. Burhanuddin compared the inflation figures recorded during the administrations of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) and President Jokowi.
“First, we surveyed in October 2014. Pak Jokowi had an approval rating of 64 percent in January 2015, it looks like there was a kind of honeymoon period, although not too high. This is different from SBY in November 2004, when it was straight up 80 percent,” he said.
According to him, Jokowi’s figures are not as high as SBY’s because firstly, when Jokowi was first inaugurated, he immediately raised fuel prices.

“So the honeymoon period with the public will quickly end, the fuel increase will have an impact on inflation,” he added.
In the survey, Burhanuddin also showed the inflation trend which was successfully kept below 5 percent during the Jokowi leadership era from November 2014 to August 2024.
Based on this data, there was a decrease in the average inflation rate year on year (YoY) from 5.14 percent in Jokowi’s first period in office then to an average of 2.84 percent until the end of Jokowi’s term of office.

The inflation data was then compared with inflation records in the era of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY). In the SBY era, the year-on-year (YoY) inflation rate was recorded at an average of 9.90 percent in President SBY’s first term, then an average of 5.62 percent in SBY’s second term.
The Political Indicator Survey provides data on economic conditions and law enforcement. The Political Indicators survey period will start from 22 to 29 September 2024.
The number of respondents was 1,200 Indonesian citizens who were obtained through multistage random sampling techniques.
Additional samples were taken from the 11 largest provinces, namely North Sumatra, Riau, South Sumatra, Lampung, Banten, Jakarta, West Java, Central Java, East Java and South Sulawesi. Each region had 300 respondents, while West Sumatra had 200 respondents. The margin of error is approximately 2.3 percent at a 95 percent confidence level. (M-4)
