Assembly of the Hierarchy of the Ecumenical Throne

The work of the Synod of the Hierarchy of the Ecumenical Throne has begun in Istanbul yesterday, September 1, a day that coincides with the beginning of the new Ecclesiastical Year and now established from the Ecumenical Patriarchateas a day of prayer for the environment. The work ends tomorrow, Tuesday, September 3.

The subject of the discussions are not only ecclesiastical but also social issues.

Indicatively, issues such as the war in Ukraine, the connection of Artificial Intelligence with the Church, the relationship between youth and the Church are going to be highlighted.

The Synod of the Hierarchy of the Ecumenical Throne is an institution, which is an initiative of the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew and takes place every three years. It is recalled that the previous Synod of the Hierarchy of the Ecumenical Throne was held in Istanbul, in September 2021, with the prevailing theme then, the coronavirus pandemic.

Hierarchs of the Throne from all over the world as well as High Priests of the Church of Greece, who are under the spiritual jurisdiction of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, i.e. the “New Countries”, while at the same time being members of the Hierarchy of the Church of Greece, participate in the Synaxis.

The Most Reverend Metropolitan of Geron Chalkidon Mr. Emmanuel presents the topic: “The Ukrainian issue and Orthodoxy in the Baltic countries”

The Most Reverend Metropolitan of Austria Mr. Arsenios presents the topic: “Orthodox Relations in the so-called ‘Diaspora’ since the beginning of the war in Ukraine”

The Most Reverend Metropolitan of Pisidia Mr. Job presents the topic: “Developments in the Theological Dialogue between the Orthodox and the Roman Catholic Church – The text of Alexandria” The Archbishop of Thyatira and Great Britain Mr. Nikitas presents the topic: “The testimony of the Church of Constantinople in the Council of European Churches (CEC) and in the Dialogue Forum between the Orthodox Churches in Europe and the Council of Episcopal Synods of the Roman Catholic Church in Europe (CCEE)”

The Most Reverend Metropolitan of Kallioupolis and Madytos Mr. Stefanos presents the topic: “The Typicon and the Liturgical tradition of the Great Church and the observed deviations from them”

The Most Reverend Metropolitan of Ioannina, Mr. Maximos, presents the topic: “Normal entry through the Media?”

The Most Reverend Archbishop of Australia Mr. Makarios presents the topic: “Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the Church”

His Holiness Metropolitan of Thessaloniki Mr. Philotheos presents the topic: “Youth and the Church”

Professor Mr. Georgios – Stylianos Prevelakis presents the topic: “The “Russian World”, focus and instrument of the Russian geopolitical strategy”

The Most Reverend Metropolitan of New Zealand Mr. Myron presents the topic: “The Orthodox Mission to the Antipodes”

Archimandrite Petros, Abbot of the Holy Forerunner Monastery Essex presents the topic: “Monasticism in the Orthodox Church in the 21st century”

Archimandrite Petros, Abbot of the Holy Monastery of Dionysios, presents the topic: “The Holy Great Church of Christ and Mount Agionymon”

Monakhi Theologia, Abbess of the Dormition Monastery of Theotokos Mikrokastro presents the topic: “The dynamics of female monasticism in the 21st century”.

The work of the Synaxis will be completed with a speech by the Ecumenical Patriarch.
