Around 9:45 p.m. this Saturday, a patrol of two police officers arrives with their suits at the Anderlecht police station, rue Démosthène. According to Het Nieuwsblad, the two police officers then saw that a man appeared to be standing guard at the entrance to the building. When one of the officers came out and asked the man if he might help him, the latter immediately kicked the officer hard.
The assailant then allegedly tried to seize the officer’s service weapon, but his colleague immediately called in reinforcements from his colleagues at the police station. Several police officers intervened and finally managed to subdue the man. According to Het Nieuwsblad, five of them are unable to work for a fortnight following this incident.
”There was indeed a fight last night at the Anderlecht police station, during which three colleagues were injured”, said Sarah Frederickx, spokeswoman for the Midi police zone. “The exact circumstances are still under investigation, but what is certain is that we are taking the matter seriously.”
The head of the corps, Jürgen De Landsheer, evokes the decommissioning of five agents for a certain time and qualifies the facts: “This is a case of indiscriminate assault on a patrol. The question arises as to how to handle this situation and how to protect our officers from it.”
The police chief also refers to the incident in Schaerbeek on November 10 last year, in which police inspector Thomas Monjoie (29) was stabbed in his wetsuit.
The Brussels public prosecutor’s office has not yet been able to provide information on the incident.
