Disabling game servers and services is a common thing in the industry. When certain systems are no longer supported, companies will need to upgrade to the latest version to keep up to date with the latest technology. Ubisoft is also shutting down online services for some games, many of which are older games released on a number of older systems. This includes games from the flagship Assassin’s Creed series, which will close these services in September. One game that wasn’t listed in the original announcement but will also be affected is Assassin’s Creed Liberation HD.
Originally released as Assassin’s Creed 3: Liberation, this is a spin-off that took place in parallel with the events of Assassin’s Creed 3, where it followed the adventures of Aveline de Grandpré in her conflict once morest the Templars. The game originally came out on the PS Vita in 2012 before being ported to PS3, PC, and Xbox 360 as Assassin’s Creed Liberation HD. This game will then be ported to PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch included with Assassin’s Creed 3 Remastered in 2019. Not surprisingly, with Ubisoft shutting down services for some older releases, this game will also be affected.
Fans have noticed that Assassin’s Creed Liberation HD’s Steam page has disabled the ability to buy the game. However, there is a notice that this game will no longer be available around the same day that Ubisoft closes its online services. Ultimately, this means that players who previously purchased and currently own the game will no longer be able to play this older version.
Many have reacted negatively to this, as can be seen in some of the recent reviews on the Assassin’s Creed Liberation HD Steam page, where fans are expressing disappointment that they bought the game but won’t be able to play it once more when September rolls around. Soon, players will only have one option to play Assassin’s Creed Liberation – through Assassin’s Creed 3 Remaster.
