Assassin’s Creed Infinity, mystery in the realm of assassins
We are in October 2021. A crazy rumor is gaining momentum on the Internet: Ubisoft would prepare a remake of all Assassin’s Creed games, titled Assassin’s Creed Infinity. A few days later, the studio decides to face the rumors of the corridors and admits working on a game bearing this name, but no traditional remake on the horizon. Infinity would rather be an Assassin’s Creed metaverse. Yves Guillemot, co-founder and big boss of Ubisoft, even speaks of a “Huge game, but with a lot of elements that already exist in games we’ve released in the past.” Very quickly, Infinity is therefore akin to the most ambitious AC game of all time, without anyone really understanding what it is all regarding.
And then come new rumors… We are told of a Red project taking place in Japan and proving to be only one component of this famous Assassin’s Creed Infinity. The project would then be a hub bringing together past and new experiences, destined to evolve over the entries. But these are only rumors, to be taken with the usual tweezers. As you will have understood, doubt hangs over this new project from Ubisoft. Fortunately, the Ubisoft Forward and more particularly the Assassin’s Creed Showcase allowed us to finally see a little more clearly.
Red, Hexe… A hub for a unique experience
The guy in charge of the license, Marc-Alexis Côté, said it: Assassin’s Creed Infinity is not a game in itself. Rather, you should see it as your only way to find the Assassin’s Creed universe, a mandatory step before you can take the leap of faith, a hub bringing together different AC experiences. In short, consider Infinity as an Animus, your own Animus (as in Unity in a way). Via this Animus, you will be able to select the adventure you want to experience, such as AC Codename Red or Hexe for example, just announced.
But that’s not all. Infinity is not a simple launcher, in which case Origin would suffice. The goal is to provide an unprecedented experience for players to bring together all their gaming experiences and connect everything, whether it is the said experiences or the players themselves. This implies that upcoming (and possibly even past) Assassin’s Creed games will most certainly feature strong multiplayer components. In any case, Marc-Alexis Côté promises us an exacerbated multi thanks to Infinity. It remains to be seen how the latter will manifest itself. As you will have understood, there are still a number of unanswered questions. But this rather special platform still does not have a launch date, we suspect that we will have to wait a little longer to find out more or see what Infinity can look like.
