According to the Kremlin, an assassination attempt was made against President Putin. A video released showed a drone flying over the Kremlin, followed by a small explosion that briefly set the roof of the stricken main building, which houses the presidential offices, on fire.

Ukraine quickly tried to distance itself from the drone attack.

“Ukraine’s presidential office denies drone attack on Kremlin, says such attack would achieve nothing and change nothing on the battlefield” VOA correspondent Steve Herman noted statements from Zelenskyi’s office.

According to the Kremlin, Ukraine sent one of two drones in a night attack Against Moscow and government buildings, which it sees as an attempt to assassinate President Vladimir Putin.

Kremlin press statement “planned terrorist attack” called it a direct attack on Putin and says Russia has the right to respond, “where and when it deems necessary”.

The president was not injured in the assassination attempt and is said to be safe, resuming his normal work schedule after the drones “disconnected” the Kremlin said in a statement quoted by RIA.

The statement further emphasized that there was no material damage to the president’s offices from the falling debris after the Russian defense neutralized the incoming devices.

The incident happened late Tuesday night, and the presidential office said both drones crashed in Moscow’s Kremlin grounds.

The first videos of the attack are already spreading like wildfire on social media.

Dmitry Peskov, Putin’s spokesman, explained that the head of state was not in the Kremlin at the time of what he believed to be a Ukrainian UAV attack on Tuesday evening. He noted that President Putin is currently working from his residence outside Moscow.
