The manufacturer Asrock has unveiled a new desktop PC. Far from the old dust towers, the object is ultra compact while being efficient.
The idea is good, and not totally new: why not take advantage of performance improvements in the field of portable PCs and apply it to an ultra-compact desktop PC? This is what Intel offers with the NUCs, and what the Taiwanese manufacturer Asrock reveals with its 4X4 Box-5000.
This mini PC measures in all and for all: 11 cm x 11.7 x 4.8 cm. Something to be forgotten on any desk or in any restaurant. Asrock specifies that VESA compatibility is provided on the back of the machine, which allows it to be attached to the back of a compatible monitor, which is rather clever. The small size is not everything, the PC promises to have a level of performance that is quite sufficient.
AMD Zen 3 Ryzen 5000 à board
The small size of the Asrock box is not its only strong point. Inside we find an AMD Ryzen 5000U processor which can go up to a Ryzen 7 5800U equipped with 8 cores and clocked up to 4.4 GHz for a TDP of 15W thanks to its TSMC 7nm FinFet engraving. Asrock promises a consumption of only 6.7W in idlei.e. turned on, but without an application launched.
This processor will also make it possible to control the rather generous connectors of the small box. At the front, there is a headphone jack, two USB-C USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports capable of transmitting video and a USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A port. On the other side of the PC, it will take two conventional USB 2.0 ports, an HDMI 2.0a port, a DisplayPort 1.2a port, a Gigabit Ethernet RJ45 port and a 2.5G Ethernet RJ45 port.
Desktop PC requires, the Asrock 4×4 Box leaves some customization to the customer. It will thus be possible to choose the amount of RAM (DDR4 3200MHz SO-DIMM up to 64 GB) and its storage solution (an M.2 slot for an NVMe SSD and a sata 3.0 hard drive slot).
