It’s found in more than 6,000 products, often sodas labeled as “ light » (“lightened”).

Aspartame has just been recognized as a “possible carcinogen” by the WHO, following years of debate regarding its dangerousness for human health. Concretely, this means that the level of scientific evidence is, for the moment, not sufficient to definitively qualify aspartame as a carcinogenic agent, but that serious signals exist.

Discovered by chance in 1965 and put on the market less than ten years later, this sweetener, with a sweetening power 200 times higher than sugar for a similar energy value, promised to reduce, without danger, the quantity of sucrose consumed.
