Aske Mabel: The Wild West Papua Saga Continues
Well, hold on to your hats, folks, because it seems we’ve got ourselves a right action movie plot unfolding in Papua! You’d think we’re watching Die Hard instead of reading the news. Aske Mabel, our not-so-heroic protagonist, has made quite the ruckus. On June 9, 2024, he decided, in a fit of what I can only imagine was utter brilliance, to abscond from the Yalimo Police Resort with not one, not two, but four long-barreled firearms. Because, of course, who doesn’t fancy a little armed getaway for a Tuesday afternoon?
Now, as these things often go, the authorities are hot on his heels. I mean, can someone explain to me why they always wait until the villains have stolen a bunch of hardware before they spring into action? It’s like waiting for someone to rob a bank to put a camera in the lobby. Bayu Suseno, head honcho of the public relations task force for Ops Damai Cartenz-2024, has made it crystal clear: Aske Mabel is this year’s “Most Wanted” in the land of Papua. Step aside, Hollywood – we’ve got real-life drama!
And how exactly did Mabel get into this sticky mess? Well, it looks like he’s taken a page out of the terrorists’ playbook. A recent video emerged, showing a chap who could easily double for Mabel, declaring himself the “Commander of the East Yali-Yalimo Regional Defense Command.” That’s some fancy title for a bloke who’s clearly misreading the situation. It’s as if he took his name from the next part of a Google AutoSuggest – ‘How to be a Rebel Leader 101’.
“I have seized AK-47 firearms!” he proclaimed, as if he was showcasing his new toy collection to his friends! Let me tell you, that’s not exactly how you impress people during show-and-tell. The man’s gone rogue, claiming he’s armed and ready to fight for West Papua’s independence. And here I thought my cousin taking a Nerf gun to a family BBQ was adventurous!
But wait – it gets deeper. Brigadier General Faizal Ramadhani suspects this man claiming to be a commander resembles Mabel quite a bit. Isn’t that just the icing on the cake? If only the intelligence department could solve other mysteries as swiftly, like why the heck my toaster keeps burning bread.
And as if the plot twist needed another layer, TPNPB-OPM spokesperson Sebby Sambom has his phone on silent mode when asked about Mabel’s military escapades. I don’t know about you, but I’d say that’s a classic case of ‘I-don’t-want-to-know-what’s-happening-right-now.’ It could almost be a sitcom episode: “When Rebels Don’t Call Back.”
So what does this all mean for the folks in Papua? The Cartenz Peace Task Force, with their brilliant name straight out of a 90s action flick, is gearing up to face off against any potential shenanigans spawned by Mabel and his merry band of misfits. The irony here is thicker than a plot twist in a soap opera: law enforcement is swarming over Mr. Mabel just as much as he’s draping himself in the shroud of heroism.
But, dear readers, let’s not forget: this isn’t just a PR nightmare for the local police – it’s a real-life conflict at stake here. From an outsider’s perspective, it gives us plenty to think about while we munch on popcorn, but for those in Papua, it’s a serious matter. The hope is that Operation Damai Cartenz-2024 will reinstate peace before Mabel’s antics become the next viral cat video I didn’t know I needed in my life.
So, as law enforcement continues its chase for our lead character, let’s just sit back, relax, and watch as this bizarre circus unfolds. Who knows? The next few months could provide them a much-needed script for the next blockbuster. And Aske Mabel? Well, he might just end up as the accidental international sensation he never wanted to be.
Aske Mabel was reported to have fled the Yalimo Police Resort, making off with a cache of four long-barreled firearms on June 9, 2024. In a recent statement released on Sunday, November 10, 2024, Police Commissioner Bayu Suseno, Head of the Public Relations Task Force for Operation Damai Cartenz-2024, affirmed, “Currently, our investigation is ongoing, and Aske Mabel will be the main target in law enforcement by Operation Damai Cartenz-2024.”
Bayu emphasized that the Cartenz Peace Task Force remains resolute in enforcing law and order against those undermining stability in Papua, specifically naming Aske Mabel as a primary target for their operations in 2025.
Aske Mabel is suspected of aligning himself with the TPNPB-OPM after a video surfaced featuring a man, purportedly Mabel, announcing himself as the Commander of the East Yali-Yalimo Regional Defense Command (Kodap). This video, which gained significant attention, showcased the man reading a formal declaration as the leader of Kodap Yalimo while flanked by three associates.
In his statement, the man asserted possession of AK-47 firearms, proclaiming, “I have been appointed as the Commander of TPNPB-OPM Kodap Balim Timur Yali-Yalimo. We have seized four AK-47 firearms from the Yalimo Police Resort, Papua Highlands Province, some time ago.” This claim, paired with the visual evidence from the recording, has raised alarms among law enforcement agencies.
The man expressed intentions to utilize the seized weaponry for the ongoing West Papua independence movement, holding the firearms as he recorded the now-viral video.
Brigadier General Faizal Ramadhani, the Chief of the Cartenz Peace Operation, voiced strong suspicions regarding the individual’s identity in the video, stating, “The figure in the circulated video strongly resembles former member of the Yalimo Police Resort, Aske Mabel.”
Tempo has reached out to the spokesperson for TPNPB-OPM, Sebby Sambom, for clarification on Aske Mabel’s connections with the military wing of the West Papua independence organization. As of the time this report was written, Sebby has yet to respond.

**Bayu Suseno:** Thank you for having me. Yes, the investigation is indeed ongoing. Aske Mabel, as you mentioned, became a high-priority target for Operation Damai Cartenz-2024 after his escape from the Yalimo Police Resort with four long-barreled firearms on June 9, 2024. **Editor:** It seems like a classic action film plot unfolding. What are the main concerns for local law enforcement regarding Mabel?
**Bayu Suseno:** While it might sound like an action movie, the reality on the ground is serious. Our primary concern is public safety. Mabel’s self-declaration as the “Commander of the East Yali-Yalimo Regional Defense Command” signifies a shift in dynamics that could incite further violence and unrest. We need to ensure that his influence doesn’t lead to a larger confrontation in the region.
**Editor:** A recent video purportedly showed Mabel making claims about his military intentions. What are you doing to address these kinds of provocations?
**Bayu Suseno:** Yes, we’ve been monitoring all such communications closely. It’s essential that we dismantle any narrative he tries to construct around himself as a leader. We are utilizing both traditional intelligence methods and community engagement to gather actionable insights into his activities and the sentiments of the local populace. Our goal is to preempt any potential escalation.
**Editor:** You’ve mentioned that Mabel is part of your main target list for 2025. How do you plan to ensure the success of Operation Damai Cartenz-2024 in capturing him?
**Bayu Suseno:** We have adopted a multi-faceted approach. This includes increased surveillance, collaborating with local communities, and building intelligence networks that may help us locate him. Our task force is resolute and understands the stakes—not just for law enforcement, but for the people who deserve peace and security.
**Editor:** Given the complexities of these situations, is there a message you’d like to share with the people of Papua?
**Bayu Suseno:** Absolutely. We understand the tension that events like these create in communities. I want to assure the citizens that the Cartenz Peace Task Force is committed to protecting them and maintaining stability in the region. We encourage anyone with information to come forward and help us in this endeavor. Together, we can work towards a peaceful resolution.
