The City of Paris and Asics have signed a two-year partnership to improve the mental health of Parisians through sport. The operation called “Paris, move your mind” aims to make the practice of sport more accessible and inclusive to improve the physical and mental health of Parisians.

A study carried out by YouGov France shows that 88% of Parisians think that physical activity has a positive impact on their mental health. Although Paris has a sporting population, with an average of 280 minutes devoted to physical activity per week, 48% of Parisians wish to practice more sporting activity and 61% of French people say they are attentive to their mental health. Many scientific studies also agree on the close link between physical activity and well-being.

On the occasion of World Mental Health Day, Tuesday October 10, Asics and the City of Paris announced their association as part of a two-year partnership called “Paris, Bouge Ton Esprit”. Objective: encourage and facilitate access to physical activity to influence the mental well-being of Parisians. A series of free actions and events will be put in place to encourage the practice, with a specific focus on the least active audiences: the elderly, young people and women.

Eddy Ferhi, marketing director Asics France : “Asics was founded on the belief that sport and exercise are beneficial for the body and mind. The brand name comes from the Latin acronym “Anima Sana in Corpore Sano” (“A healthy mind in a healthy body”). We believe that our philosophy is more relevant than ever, and we want to share this message with those around us to encourage the practice of physical activity to improve well-being. Asics is therefore very proud of this partnership with the City of Paris and very grateful for its trust.”

Main axes of the “Paris, Move your Mind” partnership:

Events and coaching to be in contact with Parisians: “We will knock on their doors, as close as possible to them, by setting up accessible, inclusive and obviously free sessions,” explains Eddy Ferhi. We won’t look at the level, people will come as they are to have a good time. We want them to discover, or rediscover, sensations through physical activity. We want them to regain confidence and then integrate physical activity into their daily lives, for example by walking to burn calories, get the blood circulating, and enjoy the benefits on the mind. We want to leave a lasting mark. »

Renovation of infrastructure and development of meeting places for sports practice: the Pershing stadium intended to become a disabled sports hub, rehabilitation of public space sites to make them places more conducive to sports practice.

Work on awareness-raising systems to raise awareness among the Parisian population. Physical activity is a very simple, very accessible answer to feeling better regarding yourself. It allows you to regain self-confidence, to rediscover sensations through the “simple” act of moving and thus feel better in your head. Ambassadors will spread the message as widely as possible.

Meeting locations will be quickly determined and the first free events will begin on November 9, in order to offer progressive and quality running support. In order to correspond to the different audiences affected by this sedentary lifestyle (age, gender, people with disabilities, etc.) and to work on the problem in depth, several sessions will be set up on specific themes. All sessions will be supervised by professional coaches able to give valuable technical and psychological advice.

Several other actions have also been taken (online content to practice in Paris according to your level, loan of equipment, equipment for the City of Paris entertainment teams). All this information, and much more, will be found online on the site, which will allow, among other things, to register for the program and receive all the necessary information on upcoming events and the actions that will be carried out throughout. throughout this partnership.

In the longer term, Asics wishes to establish itself as a facilitator and creator of solutions to this public health situation. “Our objective is to shine beyond Paris and France,” explains Eddy Ferhi. This problem does not only affect Paris. Many elements of this partnership can be imitated and adapted according to the context and culture of other countries. »
