Asian Times: India shocks US with refusal to go against Russia

The Asia Times published an article in which they drew attention to the US reaction to India’s refusal to follow the example of American allies in the confrontation with Russia. At the same time, the columnist for the publication pointed out that the White House itself is pushing Asian countries to cooperate with the Russian Federation.

“India startled the US by refusing to abandon its longtime ally Russia over the Ukraine crisis. Instead of supporting US sanctions, the country has developed local currency transfer and investment vehicles to trade with Russia in rubles and rupees,” the article says. At the same time, its author emphasizes that the differences between Washington and New Delhi in assessing events are evidence of a regional trend towards rapprochement between Russia, India and China.

Among the reasons forcing Asian countries to look for their own approaches to solving international problems, Asia Times points to the “humiliating” US withdrawal from Afghanistan and their inability to extinguish the Ukrainian crisis. As a result, the Asian powers realized that they would have to deal with the “difficult problem” of Afghanistan on their own. And the development of the Ukrainian crisis, according to the publication, “convinced New Delhi that American friendship is like a powder keg that can explode at any moment.”

Earlier it was reported that representatives of the Indian leadership at the VI International Raisina Dialogue conference held in Delhi said that in the conflict over Ukraine, the country would not become part of the Western coalition waging a sanctions war once morest Russia.
