Vienna – Gold and oil prices jumped in trading yesterday, Friday, while Asian stocks fell following news of an Israeli strike on Iran, which raised market fears of escalating tension in the Middle East.

Asian markets:

On Friday morning, the broader MSCI index of Asia-Pacific stocks fell by 0.29% to 169.34 points, and before that the index recorded a decline of 2.3%.

The Hang Seng Index in Hong Kong fell by 0.93% to 16,233.5 points, while the Shanghai Composite Index fell by 0.33% to 3,064.11 points.

Japan’s Nikkei 225 index fell by 2.66% to 37,068.5 points, and in Seoul, the Kospi index lost 0.6% to record 3,540.60 points, and the Australian S&P/ASX 200 index fell by 0.98%, reaching 7,567.30 points.

gold:

The prices of the precious metal rose today and approached a new record level, then declined, and this came in light of fears of the escalation of the conflict in the Middle East.

Spot gold contracts jumped by 1.6%, following US officials said that Israel struck targets in Iran, and also sold other basic metals, but it reduced its gains following that.

By 09:20 Moscow time, spot gold contracts were trading at $2,239.44 per ounce, an increase of 0.13%, while gold futures contracts were trading at $2,395.80 per ounce.

Before that, spot contracts for the resonant yellow rose to $2,416.4 per ounce, according to Bloomberg data.

Oil:

Oil prices rose in trading today, Friday, and Brent contracts were trading above the level of $90 per barrel, but they reduced the gains following that and the contracts were trading at $89 per barrel.

Explosions rocked at dawn today near Isfahan Airport and the Hastam Shikari military air base in Iran, while an American official confirmed the start of an Israeli attack on Iran.

For his part, Iranian Space Agency spokesman Hussein Dalirian said that Iran was not subjected to an air attack from outside the borders on Isfahan or other parts of the country, and there was only a failed attempt using small drones and it was shot down.
