The British central bank raises interest rates by 25 basis points
The British Central Bank in London.
(dpa) The British central bank has further tightened its monetary policy. The key interest rate will rise by 0.25 points to 0.75 percent, as the Bank of England announced on Thursday (March 17) after the Monetary Policy Committee meeting. Experts had expected the move. It is the third rate hike in the UK in the pandemic. The monetary watchdogs had made an initial tightening at the end of last year. A second followed in February. The background to the tighter alignment is inflation, which is likely to rise further as a result of the Ukraine war.
