Asia Rugby: Emirates’ new partnership to promote the game

Emirates Airline to Asia Rugby has announced a new multi-year partnership as the title sponsor, which will help promote the sport in countries across Asia.

With this partnership, Asia Rugby will be able to organize various seven-a-side and 15-a-side tournaments in 36 countries, as well as the Asia Rugby Championship.

The partnership aims to mainstream rugby in Asia, home to 60% of the world’s population, and is in line with Emirates’ mission to empower athletes and develop passionate fans.

Emirates Airline President Sir Tim Clarke said: ‘Emirates has a long history of supporting rugby and this partnership will help expand the sport’s reach and create opportunities for young players.’

Asia Rugby President Qais Al Zhalai highlighted the partnership between the Emirates and Asia Rugby. In this regard, the UAE is serving as a strategic base for the development of this sport across Asia.

Under the deal, Emirates branding will be part of 21 tournaments over three years, including the Asia Rugby Men’s and Women’s Championships, Sevens Series and youth competitions. The airline’s involvement will begin with the Asia Rugby Emirates Sevens Series in Hangzhou, China in September.

Emirates strongly promotes rugby globally and currently sponsors the Rugby World Cup, the Dubai Sevens Series and the South African Emirates Lions.

Emirates Airline has sponsored the Rugby World Cup (RWC) since 2007 and became a Global Partner of the RWC in 2011.

The airline also sponsors the jerseys of World Rugby’s match officials, who take to the field alongside Emirates ‘FlyBetter’ kits.

Emirates’ rich rugby partnership extends to South African Emirates Airlines and their home ground, Emirates Airline Park.
