In the fourth match of Asia Cup 2023, Bangladesh defeated Afghanistan by 89 runs to make Group B interesting.
In this match played at Gaddafi Stadium Lahore on Sunday, Bangladesh won the toss and batted first to set a target of 335 runs to Afghanistan thanks to excellent centuries by Mehdi Hasan Miraj and Najam Hussain Shanto.
Answer Afghanistan’s batsmen managed to get back into the match despite early wickets falling, but their wickets started falling in the last overs of the innings.
Ibrahim Zadran and captain Hashmatullah Shahidi scored half-centuries for Afghanistan.
Ibrahim Zadran first scored 78 runs with Rahmat Shah in the second wicket partnership and later Hashmatullah Shahidi joined Ibrahim Zadran and scored 52 runs in the third wicket partnership.
Ibrahim Zadran scored 75 runs and Heshmatullah Shahidi scored 51 runs.
On behalf of Bangladesh, Taksin Ahmed was the successful bowler with four wickets and Shariful Islam with three wickets.
Earlier, when Bangladesh started their innings, openers Mohammad Naeem and Mehdi Hasan Miraj scored 60 runs in the first wicket partnership.
After Mohammad Naeem was dismissed for 28 runs and Tawheed was dismissed for no runs, Mehdi Hasan Miraj and Najamul Hussain Shanto surprised even the Afghan spinners with their excellent batting.

The two batsmen put on 194 runs in the third wicket partnership to almost knock Afghanistan out of the match. Mehdi Hasan Miraj was retired after scoring 112 runs while Najamul Hussain Shanto was run out after scoring 104 runs.
Talking about the Afghan bowlers, bowlers like Rashid Khan, Mohammad Nabi and Fazalul Haq Farooqui could not take a single wicket in this match against Bangladesh.
Rashid Khan scored 66 runs in his allotted 10 overs while Mohammad Nabi scored 50 runs.
Thus, Bangladesh have won this match and got two points while Sri Lanka have already got two points by defeating Bangladesh.
Afghanistan will not only have to beat Sri Lanka but also improve their run rate to continue their journey in the Asia Cup.
