Ashwin overtakes Kapil Dev: Only Kumble ahead

Mohali: R Ashwin has become the second highest wicket-taker in Test cricket. Ashwin has overtaken legendary Kapil Dev. Ashwin achieved this feat in the Mohali Test. Kapil took 434 wickets in 131 Tests. Ashwin needed five more wickets to overtake the former India captain. With this achievement, Ashwin took 435 wickets.

Former India spinner Anil Kumble has topped the list of Indian bowlers who have taken the most wickets. Kumble took 619 wickets. Harbhajan is third with 417 wickets. Former pacer Zaheer Khan and veteran Ishant Sharma are fifth on the list. Both have 311 wickets each. Ashwin smashes out Sri Lankan batsman Charith Asalanka

Meanwhile, India won the Mohali Test by a huge margin. India won by an innings and 222 runs. Batting first in Mohali, India declared on a mammoth 574-8 by Ravindra Jadeja. Jadeja was unbeaten on 175 off 228 balls.

Following on the big score, Sri Lanka were all out for 174 in the first innings. Nishanka was the only batsman to cross the 50-run mark with 61 runs. Captain Dimuth Karunaratne returned at 28. India then went on to chase down Sri Lanka by an innings and 222 runs.
