The Jockey Club announced earlier that it will issue a half-year jockey license to Italian jockey Ai Zhaoli. In an interview with the British media a few days ago, Ashley revealed that he will continue to ride in the UK and will not come to Hong Kong until following the Yibo race at York Racecourse in late August. He also said that he is very much looking forward to his cameo appearance in Hong Kong this time, hoping to deliver ideal results.
Ai Siu-li has been riding in the UK for 16 years, 10 of which were the chief jockeys of Qatar Group, and he officially broke up with his employer at the beginning of this year. He said: “The Hong Kong Jockey Club contacted me earlier, hoping that I can come to Hong Kong Cameo, even riding in Hong Kong for a longer period of time. To be honest, I didn’t expect them to come to me, so I was surprised. Since this is not an easy decision, it will completely change my existing life , so I didn’t know how to answer for a while. After thinking regarding it for a whole month and researching it with some friends, I finally came to the conclusion that this is a rare opportunity, so I decided to come to Hong Kong.”
Ai Siu-li has won 26 first-class races since he started riding. Although his performance has dropped slightly following returning to freedom this season, he only won 29 winners this year, but he emphasized that this year’s results are not the main reason for this year’s visit to Hong Kong. The reason, he said: “After being a contract jockey for ten years, he returned to free agency this year. Of course, the changes are great. Without the support of a big stable, it will definitely be more difficult to get a strong horse to go into battle, but these are all expected. .In fact, I have always intended to leave the UK and go to other places, such as the United States, Australia or Hong Kong, so this time I was invited to come to Hong Kong, the timing is very suitable, not to mention that my girlfriend and I have no children, and we have to live in other places and adapt to it. will be easier.”
Ai Zhaoli said that he has ridden in different places in the world, but he is relatively unfamiliar with the racing mode and lifestyle in Hong Kong. It is a challenge for him, and he is looking forward to it. But for now, he will concentrate on riding in the UK and try his best to achieve results. After the Yibo race this month, he will leave for Hong Kong to prepare for the new racing season.
