Ashley Graham (34) reveals how hard she finds it some days to make peace with her body. The model is considered an important representative of the body positivity movement and advocates the acceptance of all body sizes and shapes. In 2016, she became the first plus-size model to grace the swimsuit issue of Sports Illustrated magazine.
Nevertheless, Graham doesn’t always feel comfortable in her body either. Because her pregnancy with the twins Roman and Malachi (four months) left deep scars. “There are days when I look at myself and say, ‘There’s nothing you can’t handle. There’s nothing you can’t do.’ Then I look at the stretch marks that are still there and will be on my stomach forever and I’m like, ‘God, why did you have to go over my belly button? I’m a lingerie model, damn it. This is not what lingerie models look like,” Graham wrote in an essay for Glamor magazine.
“I survived the bleeding”
But secretly she knows better. “I remember, ‘Well, I was never the norm for what a typical lingerie model looks like,'” she adds. In fact, Graham almost died giving birth to her twins because she lost so much blood. “I tell myself I’m a warrior because I carried and gave birth to my babies, because I survived the bleeding, because I’m the mother of my three boys,” reveals the American. Nevertheless, the transformation of her body is bothering her. (bang)
