On the fringes of these peoples, the world of Verra is nevertheless also home to the Tulnars (a ninth race of playable character), a people a little apart in the game universe and that the studio Intrepid presented as part of its livestream monthly.
The history of the Tulnars
In the history of the game universe, several millennia ago, the world of Verra suffered the great Apocalypse. The goddess of creation then opened gigantic portals to allow the people of Verra to flee and take refuge on another world while the threat passed. However, not all the inhabitants of Verra managed to use the portals and some remained stuck on the planet. These last representatives of the four major races and minor races of Verra took refuge in the Underrealm, the underground world of Verra. They learned to survive and resist the Corruption that threatened Verra.
The hybrid appearance of the Tulnars
Now, a few millennia later, the survivors of the origins have become the Tulnar, hybrids drawn from the four major peoples and the minor peoples of Verra. This is why the Tulnar take on a wide variety of forms, humanoid creatures that inherit mammalian, ape-like, or reptilian influences. During character creation, players will be able to define the characteristics of their character (as with other character races) but depending on their choices, the Tulnar character will take on specific physical characteristics, borrowed from the different influences of the race.
For the first time, the developer illustrates the appearance of the three main “influences” of the Tulnars: these are the “maximum” appearances of each “influences” (if a player makes choices leading to creating a 100% mammalian Tulnar , simian or reptilian), but according to Steven Sharif, players can mix these influences and the appearance of the character will then reflect it, sometimes borrowing from one or the other of the influences, in varying proportions.
The developer specifies, for example, that a Tulnar mammal may have a muzzle, fur or an inverted knee, while a reptilian Tulnar will sport scales or a reptile’s retina, but these different originalities may be mixed when creating the character. .
We know that the Ashes of Creation character creation tool is relatively advanced. Obviously, it will be even more so for the Tulnars.
