The competent authorities, in coordination with the Alexandria Port Authority, were able to rescue the crew of a Lebanese cargo ship that sank outside the external anchorage of Alexandria Port.
The Alexandria Port Authority, under the supervision of Captain Tarek Shaheen, head of the Port Authority, received a distress signal from the Lebanese ship “ELA” carrying 3 tons and 900 kg of scrap iron.
The rescuers and the competent authorities immediately moved, and it was found that the ship, which is 98 meters long, had a draft of 5 meters on one of its sides, and its crew, consisting of 9 Syrians and an Indian, was rescued.
It turned out that the ship was coming from Lebanon to the port of Alexandria and was completely sank following its mile, its crew was rescued.
The Public Prosecution Office was notified to investigate and question the ship’s crew to determine the cause of its sinking and the extent of environmental pollution.
