At the ASEAN-related Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, ARF, which starts tomorrow, we are pushing for a plan to include content related to North Korea’s unprecedented provocation in the chairman’s statement.
In addition, various bilateral and multilateral meetings such as Korea-Japan and Korea-US-Japan will be held, and in China, it is noteworthy whether high-level talks between Korea and China will be held with Wang Yi, a member of the Central Political Bureau of the Communist Party, who is the head of the National Security Office.

A two-day meeting of foreign ministers related to ASEAN will continue in Indonesia starting tomorrow.
The Korea-ASEAN and ASEAN+3 foreign ministers’ meeting will be held tomorrow, the East Asia Summit and the ASEAN Regional Security Forum foreign ministers’ meeting will be held the day following tomorrow, and various bilateral and multilateral meetings will be held separately.
The government plans to urge the international community to take a united response to North Korea’s nuclear and missile threats at every ministerial meeting or bilateral meeting we attend.
To this end, we emphasize the resolute and united response of the international community to North Korea’s provocations and nuclear threats, block illegal cyber activities that are considered a source of funding for North Korea’s nuclear and missile development, urge to improve the human rights situation, and support the international community for a bold initiative. This is a request policy.
In particular, we are concentrating on having North Korean provocations included in the chairman’s statement at the ARF, the only one where North Korea participates.
North Korea has not sent a foreign minister to the ARF since 2019, but this time, there is a prospect that it will send ASEAN Ambassador Ahn Kwang-il instead of Foreign Minister Choi Sun-hee.
On the occasion of the meeting, various bilateral and multilateral meetings are also promoted.
Bilateral talks with Japan, Australia, and the EU have been virtually confirmed and the schedule is being adjusted. At the Korea-Japan foreign ministers’ meeting, it is expected that opinions will be shared on plans to discharge contaminated water from Fukushima and ways to secure safety.
In addition, it is known that a Korea-US-Japan meeting will be held as US Secretary of State Tony Blincoln attends the meeting.
Attention is also focusing on whether Korea-China high-level talks will be held.
Due to health problems of Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang, Wang Yi, a member of the Central Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China, is attending.
An official from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs explained that although nothing has been decided yet, the two countries have a consensus on the need for high-level communication between Korea and China on a multilateral basis.
