A little over an hour’s journey on the Ogooué River, the Aschouka District Nursing Center is now showing off its new trappings. The dispensary and the adjoining building, housing the on-call nurse’s accommodation, almost a century old, were completely built for the first and refurbished for the second by Maurel&Prom; oil exploitation company, operating mainly in the Canton des Lacs du Sud region, near Lambaréné (center). The official commissioning ceremony of these socio-collective facilities and their return to the ”village” community of the Aschouka district, was held this Monday under the auspices of the Prefect of the Ogooué and Lakes department, Yves Yassima.
The two (2) buildings which display a proud appearance have enough to revive the esteem and hope of the local populations who legitimately aspire to better well-being, in terms of access to quality nursing care, pleading at the same time for more altruism and generosity on the part of Maurel&Prom.
“If you give me your hand, I’ll take your arm. We are delighted with the equipment that has just been made available to us. However, I would already like to thank you for the attention that should also be paid to the Aschouka school which needs Maurel&Prom to help us”pleaded on behalf of the beneficiaries, Bernadin Mbouroux, Chief of Ogooué aval Canton, Aschouka district.
Handing over the keys to new health structures to users, through the nurse of the ‘’village’’the local health authorities, in particular the Regional Director of Health (center), Franklin Ngouori, calling for the synergies of the beneficiary populations for the maintenance of the health center, are delighted that the new structures thus enrich “the health map of the central region, with the functions of existing and functional buildings, unlike many others that exist, but are not functional in the province of Moyen-Ogooué”he informed.
Immediately after the inauguration of the new Health Center, Maurel&Prom, with follow-up ideas, provided the community dispensary with a batch of essential pharmaceutical materials and products, worth around four million (4 000,000) of CFA Francs, for the immediate operationalization of the health structure.
These allocations, we learned, are the result of remarkable advocacy, carried out tirelessly by the local administrative authorities to relieve the leadership of the Sub-Prefect of the District of Aschouka, Wilfrid Dupont Gildas Létina, who understands that “This new environment will allow the healthcare workers assigned to Aschouka to be in good living and working conditions. These health infrastructures represent, in our eyes, the beginning of the materialization of administrative and structural development desired by the highest authorities of our country”he revealed.
These investments effectively result from provisions from the Local Community Development Fund (FDCL), constituted in particular by oil companies, whose very appreciable orientation and action of the supervisory ministry have a strong impact on the improvement of daily life. populations living in impacted areas.
Characteristics of the new Aschouka dispensary
In Aschouka, the infirmary with an area of 112m2 includes a waiting room, a treatment room, the major’s office and that of his assistant; as well as an observation room and a pharmacy room. As for the nurse’s accommodation, built on 81m2, it consists of two terraces, a living room, a kitchen and two bedrooms.
Obviously, education and health issues have always been at the very heart of Maurel&Prom’s CSR (social and environmental responsibility) policy, especially in its privileged operating region located in the Canton Lacs du Sud region, in Lambaréné.
In place of the supervisory minister, the president of the quadripartite FDCL Commission of the Ministry of Oil revealed that these investments, with a total cost of nearly eighty-two million (82,000,000) CFA Francs, “were validated by the dedicated Commission, on the basis of the needs expressed by the populations of the Aschouka district”explained Jean Juste Ibinga, Advisor to the Minister of Oil.
“The choice of these infrastructures is a response to the very real problem of accessibility to health care for rural populations who experience difficulty in receiving appropriate medical care. It is to compensate for this that this action, which aims to be an extension of planning policies applied in the field of public health, has received our full attention. The delivery of this infrastructure should, we hope, have notable results”wished the Human Resources Director of Maurel&Prom, Arthur Mbina Nzamba.
