As the Seimas Anticorruption Commission considers A. Anušauskas’ hints, J. Sabatauskas demands answers

“Arvydas Anušauskas, commenting on the reasons for his departure, publicly stated that he “had to slam the door on companies that tried to bribe national security personnel by offering illegal rewards. But they found an open door in the Seimas.”

Thus, according to A. Anušauskas, I. Šimonytė’s dissatisfaction might be caused by the anti-corruption management introduced by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the minister’s refusal to include some companies in public procurement,” comments J. Sabatauskas.

The Social Democrat called on the Seimas Anti-Corruption Commission to conduct an investigation, noting that “the Prime Minister herself and influential politicians belonging to the ruling party said that changes are necessary due to the need to ‘move faster’.” A reasonable question arises – what is considered faster movement? Perhaps a faster pace of public procurement in which interested companies want to participate?”

J. Sabatauskas urged not to leave unanswered the question, “who are these persons and whether they acted (are acting) with the help of Seimas members.”

The parliamentarian proposed to invite A. Anušauskas himself to the meetings of the Seimas commission on this issue, as well as members of the Seimas who applied or made proposals to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on public procurement issues, if A. Anušauskas named such parliamentarians, as well as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Special Investigation Service, the General Prosecutor’s Office, Public Procurement representatives of the service, State Audit Office, non-governmental organizations.

Vilija Blinkevičiūtė, the chairperson of the Lithuanian Social Democratic Party, stated that “the information published by A. Anušauskas regarding attempts to bribe national security personnel and the fact that unnamed business entities influenced Seimas members – and they possibly interfered in public procurements of the Ministry of Interior – is scandalous .

The Prime Minister and the Minister of National Defense should immediately publicize the cases of possible corruption and answer the questions why these incidents were hidden from the public. No questions can remain unanswered – this affects the trust of our citizens in the state and its institutions”.
