Little girl Marnie Adam was born at 39 weeks of pregnancy at Raigmore Hospital, Inverness, England. However, Marnie’s parents Rachel Bizarion and Scott Adam said their daughter had to be rushed to the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) at the Royal Children’s Hospital in Glasgow. There, the girl met a nurse who later had a special relationship with her.

“Even though my pregnancy went smoothly, after she was born, we discovered many abnormalities in her. Just 10 hours after birth, she was taken by plane from Raigmore to Glasgow, where she was arrested. I started my first journey alone because I couldn’t go with me due to having just given birth.
At the hospital’s NICU in Glasgow, she was greeted by a very kind nurse named Marnie McVeigh. This nurse’s compassion and dedication inspired us to name our daughter after her. Nurse Marnie cared for our baby girl like she was her own. She is also the one who helped us get through the darkest days.” Rachel remembered.
The nurse inspired the family to name their daughter Marnie.
For the first two months of her life, the NICU in Glasgow was like home for little Marnie. As reported by Glasgow Live, in those early days, Marnie bravely faced three major heart surgeries and three important ENT procedures. Following her time in the NICU, Marnie spent a week in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and a further 3 weeks in Ward 3b before being able to return to Raigmore.
Recalling those days, Rachel shared: “This journey has been extremely difficult, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic. For many weeks, only my husband and I were able to see our child, and family members were eagerly waiting for the moment to meet him.” .
The treating doctors, surgeons, and nurses made us feel like family during our stay. Marnie is our superhero, as is the entire medical staff. They took care of and treated my daughter throughout her hospitalization and outpatient period. My family owes them a debt of gratitude and is very grateful to everyone for giving our daughter the strength and determination to overcome her early challenges.”
Marnie Adam is now 3 years old, a healthy and cheerful girl.

“It’s been a real challenge to make sure families feel supported and included, but I’m so happy to be part of the team. I’m so happy to know that her parents have named her after me.” for my daughter’s name. During the family’s most difficult moments, I contributed a little.
Whatever the reason, I would not change my job at the NICU. Having families stay in touch and share similar stories with us as a way of responding is the best thing.”
