Al-Azhar University Law EXPERT Suparji Ahmad believes that Chief Justice of the Supreme Court (MA) Sunarto must be able to eradicate the judicial mafia. He said that so far the justice mafia carrying out transactions or buying and selling of justice still occurs in Indonesia.

“This judicial mafia is something that has not been able to be eradicated because its methods are very varied. The name mafia is difficult to detect, but the hope is that it can be eradicated,” said Suparji to Indonesian MediaWednesday (16/10).

Suparji said that eradicating the judicial mafia needs to start from the decisions and performance of judges at the Supreme Court that are in accordance with existing facts or without being lured into anything. He hopes that Sunarto will be able to achieve accountability, professionalism and transparency for all his staff at the Supreme Court.

Suparji said that good performance will increase public trust in the judiciary. He said the Supreme Court must be present as an institution that provides justice to the entire community.

“So don’t let justice seekers have their justice delayed because delayed justice is the same as no justice,” he said.

Furthermore, Suparji also highlighted the Solidarity of Indonesian Judges who went on strike because they demanded an increase in salaries and allowances. He said an evaluation needed to be carried out to overcome the welfare problems complained of by the judges.

“There must be periodic evaluations so that the welfare of judges is met. On the other hand, it is also important that there be a serious effort to build a culture at the Supreme Court that is in accordance with the values of justice, certainty and usefulness,” he concluded. (J-2)
