Biden’s announcement came as he deals with the fallout from his COVID-19 infection and growing calls from Democrats for him to withdraw.
“I look forward to returning to the campaign trail next week to continue exposing the threat posed by Donald Trump’s Project 2025 agenda while defending my own record and the vision I have for America — one in which we save our democracy, protect our rights and freedoms, and create opportunity for all,” Biden said in a statement.
The US President added, “The stakes are high and the choice is clear… together we will win.”
The president also criticized Trump’s keynote speech Thursday night at the Republican National Convention, saying “the former president focused on his own grievances, with no plan to unite us or a plan to improve the lives of working people.”
“Last night, the American people saw the Donald Trump they rejected four years ago,” Biden continued.
“Trump has laid out a dark vision for America’s future and together as a party and as a country, we can and will defeat him at the ballot box,” he added.
Biden’s comments came as calls grow for him to step down from the presidential race, with Democrats still divided over whether Biden can defeat Trump in November.
On Friday, at least 10 Democrats joined the chorus calling for Biden to resign, including Texas Rep. Mark Veasey.
ABC News reported that President Biden had difficulty climbing the short stairs that come out from under the plane when he boarded Air Force One on Wednesday. After arriving in Dover, he had difficulty getting off the plane once more, and it appeared that Secret Service personnel physically helped him into the SUV that was waiting for him.
But Biden’s insistence on returning to the campaign trail appears to be due to his team feeling re-energized following Trump’s speech.
In the same context, two sources told NBC that “members of President Joe Biden’s family discussed what withdrawal from the presidential race might look like.”
The two sources said that the president’s inner circle believes that if the 81-year-old Biden decides not to run for a second term, he will be motivated primarily by a desire to help the Democratic Party defeat Donald Trump in the next election.
After the disastrous debate with Donald Trump and public calls for the elderly Biden not to run for a second term, and explicit calls, the media reported that the White House chief has no intention of withdrawing from the presidential race under pressure from his family in particular.
The Biden campaign continues to insist that the incumbent president has no intention of giving up the fight. Biden, who is currently in isolation at his Delaware residence, is ill with the coronavirus.
It is worth noting that Biden announced last Wednesday that he might withdraw from the presidential race if medical professionals decided that he was suffering from health problems.
