CHAIRMAN of the Indonesian Medicolegal Forensic Doctors Association (PDFMI) Team, Ade Firmansyah Sugiharto, revealed the results of the exhumation of the body of the late Afif Maulana which was found under the Kuranji Bridge, Padang, on June 9 2024.

Ade Firmansyah stated that the exhumation results showed that the cause of Afif Maulana’s death was a fall from a height. A forensic zonalogy examination at the RSCM Anatomical Pathology Laboratory found intravital wounds on various parts of the body, including the lower side of the chest, back, left arm, left thigh and back of the head.

“The results of the examination showed that there was an intravital wound, which means it occurred when the deceased was still alive,” said Ade during a press conference at the Padang Police, Thursday (26/9) afternoon.

Present on this occasion were the Head of Public Relations of the West Sumatra Regional Police, Commissioner Dwi Sulistyawan, the Padang Police Chief, Commissioner Ferry Harahap, representatives of the Ombudsman, LKAAM West Sumatra, LBH Padang, and the family of the deceased.

He added that the injuries were not consistent with a vehicle accident, but were the result of a fall from a height.

Further analysis revealed that based on Afif Maulana’s weight and height, the injuries he suffered were predominantly on the back of his body. The energy received by the body when falling from a height of 14.7 meters, namely 7,200 joules, results in serious injury.

“Based on the analysis of the team of doctors, Afif Maulana’s death was consistent with the mechanism of a fall from a height. The high energy caused damage to the back, waist and head,” explained Ade.

The final conclusion states that the cause of Afif Maulana’s death was blunt force to the waist, back and head, which resulted in a fracture to the spine and injuries to the brain.

Meanwhile, the family of the late Afif Maulana, together with their attorney from the Padang Legal Aid Institute (LBH), are urging further investigation into the cause of Afif’s death.

In a press conference held by LBH Padang on Thursday (26/9), the Director of LBH Padang, Indira Suryani, expressed her disappointment because the family had not received an official copy of the autopsy results. Even though there have been letters of request to PDFMI and the police, the results of the autopsy were only conveyed verbally by the head of the exhumation team, doctor Ade Firmansyah, without sufficient details.

“We have asked for written results during the exhumation process at M. Djamil Hospital, but until now an official copy has not been given to the family or legal team,” said Indira.

Indira also highlighted that of the 19 tissue samples taken from Afif’s body, including soft tissue and bone, there were no detailed sampling points and the results were explained in detail.

“LBH Padang wants to look at this case comprehensively because there are many signs that indicate Afif’s death was not just the result of one incident. We urge a thorough investigation,” stressed Indira. (N-2)
