Today at 4 p.m., Aryna Sabalenka, 26, was to enter Wimbledon.

But the world number three did not come to play.

“I am devastated,” she writes on Instagram.

At 16.00 Swedish time, the idea was that Aryna Sabalenka would enter the first round of Wimbledon against Emina Bektas from the USA.

But at 2:00 p.m., the Belarusian came with a gloomy message.

She pulls out.

“Devastated to have to tell you all that I will not be able to play The Championships this year. I tried everything to get ready, but unfortunately my shoulder is not cooperating,” she writes on Instagram

Shoulder injured

The shoulder she is talking about injured the 26-year-old during the Berlin Open a few weeks ago.

“I pushed myself to the limit during training today to do my best, but my team explained that gambling would only make things much worse. This tournament means so much to me and I promise I will come back stronger than ever next year,” she continues.

Sabalenka has won two grand slam titles in her career, but never made it all the way on the fabled grass on the outskirts of London.

As far as Sweden is concerned, there is no blue-yellow representation in the starting field on the women’s side. On the men’s side, Elias Ymer has managed to qualify for the main tournament.
