Arturo Jáuregui, former player of Colo Colo and the Chilean national team, dies at the age of 66: what happened to him and reactions to his death

The former player of Colo Colo and the Chilean national team, Arturo Jaureguipassed away at the age of 66, following a complicated illness.

Jáuregui had cancer and had been in a delicate state of health for days. He ceased to exist this Thursday at the clinic where he was hospitalized.

Until his last days he attended the butcher shop he had in Lo Valledor and which he opened with his father in 1985, when he was still an active player.

How did Arturo Jáuregui play?

The ‘Chico’ was an attacking midfielder, talented and with a lot of goals. In his professional career he scored 175 goalsbeing Magallanes the painting where he celebrated the most conquests, with 53.

He began his career at Deportes Aviación, but exploded at Independiente de Cauquenes, where he scored 17 goals in the Promotion in 1976. He then returned to Aviation (1977-1980). His career took him to Deportes Iquique (1981), Magallanes (1982-1984), Unión Española (1985), Colo Colo (1986-1989), Naval de Talcahuano (1989-1990), Audax Italiano (1991) and finally to the caravelero painting in 1992.

Jáuregui won two titles, both in the Colo Colo jersey, in the 1986 First Division Championship and the 1988 Chile Cup. He played 132 games for Cacique, where he scored 39 goals.

The talented midfielder played three class ‘A’ matches for the Chilean national team, all friendlies, two once morest Uruguay in 1985 and one once morest El Salvador in 1989.
