Executive Director of the Network for Democracy and Electoral Integrity (NETGRIT), Hadar Nafis Gumay, assessed that the large number of artists who became regional head candidates in the 2024 Pilkada proves that political parties have failed to produce quality cadres.
“This is proof of the inability of political parties to prepare complete and thorough cadres,” said Hadar in his short message today.
According to Hadar, political parties should be able to read the needs of the community or the region where the regional elections are taking place.
After reading these needs, the party’s next task is to prepare cadres who have the experience and capabilities to answer all of society’s problems.
However, political parties instead prefer to nominate figures from among artists as regional heads. “That is a form of excessive pragmatism, a shortcut (to seek votes),” said Hadar.
Therefore, Hadar asked political parties to continue to monitor the artists they have nominated from the start of the campaign process until they are elected.
Even if they have been elected, Hadar continued, political parties must continue to control the performance of the artists they support so that they can work optimally in meeting the needs of the people. “Political parties are responsible for their suboptimal performance,” said Hadar.
Hadar also hopes that all regional head candidates from the entertainment world will leave their old professions completely and focus on improving their people and regions. (Ant/P-2)

The Failure of Political Party Cadre Development: An Analysis of Artists in Regional Elections
The role of artists in regional elections has been a subject of discussion in recent times, with many notable celebrities throwing their hats into the ring to vie for top positions. However, this trend has raised concerns about the ability of political parties to produce quality cadres. According to Hadar Nafis Gumay, Executive Director of the Network for Democracy and Electoral Integrity (NETGRIT), the large number of artists participating in regional elections is a reflection of the failure of political parties to develop capable cadres.
The Inability to Prepare Complete and Thorough Cadres
Hadar argues that political parties have failed to prepare complete and thorough cadres, instead opting to nominate artists as regional heads. This, he believes, is a form of excessive pragmatism and a shortcut to seeking votes. “This is proof of the inability of political parties to prepare complete and thorough cadres,” he states. Political parties should be able to read the needs of the community or region where the regional elections are taking place, and then prepare cadres who have the experience and capabilities to address the problems faced by society.
The Consequences of Excessive Pragmatism
The consequences of this excessive pragmatism can be far-reaching. By nominating artists as regional heads, political parties may be seen as prioritizing popularity over substance. This can lead to a lack of faith in the political system, as citizens may question the ability of their leaders to effectively govern and address their concerns. Furthermore, it can also lead to a lack of accountability, as artists may not have the necessary experience or expertise to hold public office.
The Importance of Cadre Development
Cadre development is a critical component of a healthy political system. It ensures that political parties have a pool of talented and experienced individuals who can take on leadership roles and effectively govern. By investing in cadre development, political parties can build a strong foundation for their organization and ensure that they have the necessary human capital to compete effectively in elections.
The Role of Political Parties
Political parties have a critical role to play in developing capable cadres. They must invest in training and capacity-building programs for their members, providing them with the necessary skills and knowledge to compete in elections. They must also prioritize meritocracy over popularity, selecting candidates based on their qualifications and experience rather than their celebrity status.
The Way Forward
the large number of artists participating in regional elections is a reflection of the failure of political parties to develop capable cadres. To address this issue, political parties must prioritize cadre development and invest in training and capacity-building programs for their members.
