This is a first novel. Art is brought to a class at the Vauseyon college in Neuchâtel. This is a project developed since the start of the 2023 school year by the international association MUS-E in collaboration with the Dürrenmatt Center (CDN). On Wednesday morning, a presentation lesson took place with the class participating in the project.

The concept provides for a weekly class given by an artist and a teacher. Each semester, the art form as well as the speaker changes, which allows for greater diversity in the offering offered to students.

Lucas Gonseth, percussionist at the Neuchâtel Conservatory and music teacher for three months at Vauseyon, says he builds his lessons around musical values and artistic themes linked to the works of Friedrich Dürrenmatt.

This Wednesday morning, the students were able to present a musical setting of a work by the Neuchâtel artist, using percussion. Madeleine Betschart, director of the Center, is delighted with this project which reflects the values of the institution: “The mission of the CDN is the transmission of the pictorial work in dialogue with the literary work of Dürrenmatt. » An awareness of art which can start early and which serves as an encouragement to artistic creation, according to the art historian.

In the report, the children who participated in the project note that the percussion performance in which they participated allowed them to “make a lot of noise”. As Lucas Gonseth points out, it was divided into three paintings, each focused on a pictorial work by Friedrich Dürrenmatt and devoted to three current themes: the pandemic, the climate and communication.

According to a press release, the MUS-E association has enabled nearly a million children around the world to benefit from cultural mediation actions through the presence of artists in class. /ifp
