Artistic and cultural actors want a restoration of the sector –

It is in relation to the major national consultations of artists for the restoration of artistic life in Gabon, that the advisor to the president of the transition, President of the Republic, Norbert Epandja, went to Port-Gentil to exchange with the artistic and cultural actors for a profound restoration of this sector. On March 25, following the cities of Libreville and Oyem, the economic capital was the 3e stage of these national consultations.

“I came here because we need to revive artistic life in Gabon; it has simply been blocked since 2009, and today we have a new power dynamic that is there and we must act,” explains Mr. Epandja.

These exchanges are the result of more than fifteen years of absence of major events aimed at enhancing and promoting national culture, and detecting young artistic talents in all fields.

Norbert Epandja believes that “those who were blocking it were the deposed authorities, who did not want to see cultural activity flourish. For 14 years we might no longer see a show, an art exhibition or a fashion show.”

The objective for the federation of artistic and cultural actors of Ogooué-Maritime (Fedacom), is the establishment of a platform (cultural center) dedicated to the deepening of knowledge and the sharing of experiences of men and women. women of the profession. In perspective for Fedacom, work hard so that the city of Port-Gentil has a provincial office of the Gabonese copyright office (Bugada).

For the president of FEDACOM Sonia Douckagha and Mabounda Dilindi, “the cultural actor needs a working environment where he can promote his works. Beyond the texts, there are decisions or actions that can directly impact the life of the cultural actor. The establishment of a cultural center in Port-Gentil would be a beneficial contribution, with all the amenities.”

Port-Gentil, the economic capital of Gabon, a city which saw the birth of several Gabonese artists such as Omar Ben Salah, Prince Marius, Aimé Pounah and many others, has been confronted for years with the absence of festivals, the lack of support oil companies in their organization of major events, to the marginalization of artists by provincial authorities and above all to the lack of solidarity between actors. Deep problems which spoil cultural and artistic life at the local level.
