For two weeks (until June 8), Suzanne Lainesse is in artist residency near the Boisé des Frères du Sacré-Coeur. She takes this opportunity to create songs in this beautiful environment of Victoriaville.
Met when she was welcoming visitors for the first time, Suzanne said she was very happy with this opportunity offered by the City of Victoriaville. “An artist residency is a time when you linger to write or find music. It is also a new environment where there is good acoustics and which encourages creation”, she appreciates.
After only a few hours in the enchanting place, she had already polished a text, started a new one and composed music. With each presence, she brings with her different instruments to inspire herself.
Even before starting her residency, Suzanne was planning this creative period and already had certain ideas she wanted to develop. “Not everything I do will necessarily be good. But it’s the start of something,” she adds.
She wanted to add an educational aspect to this residency. The Victoriavilloise has therefore, on cardboard, explained what a verse, a chorus, how to find a title, etc.
She installed her work table near the window and arranged the premises to her liking. For this residence, she has not set a goal, but intends to take advantage of every moment. “I had two texts started that I continued. One on medical assistance in dying and another which is a letter to a friend,” she said once more.
For Suzanne, this is a first artist residency, she who made song her second career when she was 55 years old, i.e. since 2013. She likes this wooded area, a quiet place with a beautiful brightness that takes her out of her home and offers her a beautiful place to create. “I love it,” she expresses.
When visitors come to see what she does, she takes the time to explain to them and even asks them if they don’t have subjects they would like her to cover in her songs. “It’s very nutritious,” she appreciates.
Her residency will end on June 8 at 7 p.m. with a short acoustic performance where she will present the fruit of her two-week work.
Suzanne Lainesse feels good regarding being an artist and enjoys presenting her compositions to people in her region, as she did with her backyard tour. She knows today what she is worth, what she wants and does not want to create stress. Suzanne Lainesse has music in her, which brings her happiness and joy. “If I can touch people with my songs, if it makes them think, that’s my pay,” she says. Well assumed as a singer-songwriter and performer, she now allows herself to be herself, a full-fledged and accomplished artist.
