Artist Lee Jung-seop’s wife Masako dies age 101

(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Jun-eok Kim = Masako Yamamoto, wife of Lee Jung-seop (1916-1956), a ‘national painter’, has recently passed away. She is 101 years old.

According to the art world on the 30th, Masako Masako, who lived in Tokyo, Japan, died of old age on the 13th.

The deceased was born in 1921, and he and Lee Jung-seop formed a relationship with Lee Jung-seop in 1936 as seniors and juniors in the art department of the Japanese Cultural Academy.

The deceased managed to sail to Busan during the Pacific War in 1945 and married Lee Jung-seop in Wonsan.

Lee Jung-seop gave the deceased a Korean name, Lee Nam-deok (李南德), which means ‘a virtuous woman from the south’.

After her father’s death in 1952, Masako left for Japan and stayed there.

The deceased visited Jeju in 2012 to donate a palette, a keepsake of her husband, to Seogwipo City.
