Education is one of the main pillars of any society, being a determining factor for the development of the nation and its citizens. Like any activity in modern life, teaching is also undergoing transformations through technology, something that became even more evident following the pandemic, a period in which distance learning and the use of electronic devices became allies and not distractions. According to the 2020 ICT Education survey, only 21% of schools offered remote content and activities before the pandemic, now this number has jumped to 87%.

And it is not just remote teaching, using cell phones and tablets, that benefit from technologies in the educational field. Allowing the classroom to be integrated with students and teachers who are in person with others remotely, expands and enhances interactions and opportunities. This is possible with the use of a fully digitized screen. In addition to allowing learners to enjoy the familiar, natural feel of traditional writing in a versatile digital format, the connectivity of these screens provides an easy-to-use, fully synchronized collaborative experience. The advantages are numerous, such as connecting to different devices, making use of online content for research, presentations, file exchange, videos and tasks. There are already models with an integrated operating system, making life even easier for teachers and students by allowing, for example, the mirroring of the presentation of an important work or the sending of study material directly to the students’ mobile devices.

At a time when children and teenagers come into contact with technology from an early age, upgrading the education system to digital is the way to engage students. This is what IBGE data demonstrate: in 2021 alone, 84.7% of the population over 10 years old used the internet. These smart screens are also available in smaller sizes, ideal for homes, eliminating the need for ruggedized computers for schoolwork or lesson planning.

Another topic that has gained prominence when we talk regarding the digitization of teaching is the potential use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools. Through the various possibilities that this technology brings, teachers might create activities, tests, references, look for examples to solve problems and even carry out work with much greater ease and breadth. In this way educators can invest even more time and attention for students. This feature also makes access to information more democratic, as with just a few questions students who do not have access to books or other traditional methods can acquire knowledge.

It is important to take into account that technologies are auxiliaries and not substitutes for the human factor. The social interaction that schools provide are fundamental for the development of young people. At the same time, care is extremely important in the way such technology can be used, avoiding its malicious use, as it can involve various risks such as the dissemination of false information, an increase in the incidence of plagiarized content, among others. Even so, it is an agenda that needs to be part of the discussion on education, so that we can develop ways to use these solutions in a beneficial and assertive way.

Even with a very promising scenario with the digitalization of teaching, there are still many challenges to be overcome. According to a study by the British Council, an international organization in the United Kingdom, and published by Agência Brasil, training teachers to use these new technologies is still an obstacle to the spread of digital inclusion, while infrastructure is the main villain. In a self-assessment carried out by more than 100,000 Brazilian basic education teachers, a large part stated that they did not feel able to use technology for anything other than what they do in their personal lives.

Even though the country currently has 149 million users connected to the internet, according to recent data brought by the ICT Households 2022 survey, it is essential to bear in mind that just inserting these tools in the educational environment is not enough, but it is also necessary to focus on simple and effective solutions. intuitive ideas that benefit students, teachers and, consequently, society as a whole.
