As we approach November 1, Samsung Electronics proudly celebrates its 54th corporate anniversary, a momentous occasion that represents decades of innovation and progress. On this day, we celebrate the remarkable advancements that have become a fundamental part of our company’s DNA.

Over the years, Samsung Electronics has thrived in a variety of industries, pioneering advances in mobile technology, transforming our homes with innovative home appliances, and even creating vast networks that connect us all. This remarkable journey has consistently highlighted the company’s steadfast commitment to excellence and its relentless pursuit of value creation.

However, amid these incredible achievements, there is something that fills me with pride: our persistent dedication to the community, especially young people. On our 54th anniversary, I want to share with you this part of our history and our future: how are we empowering the next generation to reach their full potential and contribute to a better future for all?

Under our vision of Corporate Citizenship ‘Together for Tomorrow! Enabling People’Samsung Electronics is committed to empowering future generations to reach their full potential and lead positive social change.

In this shared journey of knowledge and training, we invest in the future, foster innovation and pave the way for a world where every individual can prosper and contribute positively to society. Together, we are building a legacy of progress, purpose and meaningful change.

For us, creating a better world is not just a slogan; It is a mission of great significance. We understand that the next generation must approach issues in innovative and disruptive ways, finding sustainable solutions to the challenges that lie ahead. That’s why Samsung places an unwavering focus on education.

Samsung Citizenship Programs in Latin America

Prioritizing education is a commitment that Samsung makes for the future, in respect for our past. Education was essential for the development of South Korea, which is why it is one of the main pillars of our social responsibility throughout the world and in Latin America.

Education is the foundation of a better future as it empowers young minds with the knowledge and skills needed to drive positive social change. To achieve this goal, Samsung collaborates closely with governments and organizations, reaching across boundaries to champion impactful educational programs.

Our focus on education goes beyond developing technical skills; it is about stimulating innovation and creativity through Corporate Citizenship programs. Our main initiatives, Solve for Tomorrow and Samsung Innovation Campus, exemplify our dedication to promoting critical thinking and collaboration and have already benefited more than 357 thousand students and teachers in Latin America.

The Samsung Innovation Campus aims to empower young people with crucial technical skills, but also invaluable life skills. This program goes beyond traditional educational boundaries, filling gaps to provide better employment opportunities for the students served by the project. It is a testament to Samsung’s unwavering commitment to overcoming obstacles and ensuring that all young people, regardless of their background, can aspire to a better future.

Additionally, I’m excited to highlight the Solve for Tomorrow (SFT) program! After all, the SFT celebrates 10 years of existence in Latin America.

Solve For Tomorrow Legacy in Latin America

Samsung Solve for Tomorrow is a transformative program grounded in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) disciplines, which fosters problem-solving skills and promotes innovation in young minds. Prioritizes comprehensive skill development, including critical and creative thinking, effective communication, and collaborative teamwork. The program encourages students to see challenges as opportunities to rethink, visualize and transform ideas into reality, promoting an inclusive learning culture where everyone has the chance to excel.

A key part of the program’s success are Samsung mentors, who actively engage, offering guidance and support. The involvement of mentors reinforces the program’s mission to empower educators and students by making STEM education inclusive and transformative.

The celebration of a decade of the Solve for Tomorrow program in Latin America is a testament to its remarkable impact on improving the quality of public education across the region. What makes this program unique is its in-depth understanding of the specific educational needs of different countries, where education plays a key role in local development. This vision motivates the program to extend its reach to remote rural communities, respecting the unique values and characteristics of each Latin American country. Multilateral commitments and a network of local partners are essential for the program’s broad reach.

With the philosophy “Everybody wins in Education“, Solve for Tomorrow promotes a supportive and constructive environment among participants, recognizing the full context of students, communities, available school infrastructure and the country as a whole. Throughout its history, the program has reached schools in remote areas, often involving indigenous and rural schools in Latin America.

Furthermore, the inclusion of girls in Solve for Tomorrow teams is a mandatory requirement, a strategy that aims to address the prevalent gender disparity in STEM fields by promoting diversity, equity and inclusion.

Solve for Tomorrow operates in 20 countries in Latin America, including Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico and many others. Since 2014, the program has benefited more than 311 thousand students and 41 thousand teachers from more than 22 thousand public schools in the region, contributing significantly to education.

Let’s exemplify these significant numbers with a concrete example: imagine a place where drinking water is scarce. This was the reality of a remote community in Paraguay. In the Chaco region, access to clean water was a critical issue. More than 5,000 people, including many indigenous people, did not have access to a reliable source of drinking water. Existing water sources were contaminated with salt and pollutants, making them unfit for consumption.

Two young Paraguayan students, Diego Fernandez and Jazmín Florentin, were unable to simply ignore this terrible situation. They believed that clean water was a fundamental right and decided to make a change.

Driven by empathy and inspired by innovation, they began working on a solution. The pair discussed methods to improve water sanitation issues, also focusing on portability and energy aspects. They developed MBARETICS, a portable, solar-powered water purification system. This invention represented more than just technology; she was a lifeline for her community.

In 2020, MBARETICS was recognized with the SFT award. Diego and Jazmín’s story reminds us that innovation, when driven by compassion and guided by education in STEM disciplines, can change lives by providing the most vital resource of all: clean water.

The future of SFT in Latin America

SFT in Latin America has thrived thanks to the collaboration and contributions of public school teachers from 20 countries in the region. As a result, the practices that emerge from the program can be easily applied in any school environment, with minimal infrastructure requirements.

With a shared commitment to promoting and improving learning experiences for a broader spectrum of public school educators, teachers, and students, we intend to expand the reach of pedagogies and methodologies designed and developed by public school teachers through SFT . Our vision is to empower educators across Latin America and beyond with proven teaching methodologies, promoting innovation, engagement, and most importantly, providing students with enriched learning experiences that prepare them for the challenges of the future.

We have exciting news ahead of us for the 2024 school calendar in Latin America, and I will be honored to share it soon. We have many decades ahead of us, working hand in hand with students, teachers, governments, universities and NGOs to build a more solid Education in Latin America.
