Since the appearance of the ChatGPT interface, artificial intelligence has become a mainstream topic. However, many questions remain unanswered regarding it. What data was used to train this conversational robot? What happens to the information we share? How are algorithms made? Better understanding how it works allows us to be more free. An aspiration that is gaining momentum in the world.
In less than a year, ChatGPT has established itself as a consumer software, with a massive adoption rate in record time. Yet, like other so-called generative artificial intelligence programs, we know very little regarding how it works and how it will evolve.
Making projects open source, that is to say made available to everyone, is proposed by some as the solution. This might notably help to reduce prejudice, reduce misinformation, or even better reward content creators, believes Frenchman Clément Delangue. And therefore to be more free. The Hugging Face platform co-creator was able to make these arguments to the U.S. Congress on June 22.
Will he be heard?
