The first results of the Cascade study on lung cancer screening in women highlight the usefulness of artificial intelligence software to detect or not the presence of a tumor.
The risk of developing lung cancer is higher in women than in men for the same tobacco consumption. These are the first results of the Cascade study (screening for Lung CAncer by low-dose CT scan), conducted since 2022 on women aged between 50 and 74 and reported by our colleagues at Franceinfo.
A lesson partly learned by… artificial intelligence. Software can effectively assist a radiologist by offering him another reading of the lung cancer screening scanner.
Double Reading Wins Again
“All the scanners carried out in the study are the subject of a double reading, by the radiologist assisted by an artificial intelligence then by two experts”, had assured last month with the Point the Pr Marie-Pierre Revel, chief radiology department at Cochin Hospital and principal investigator of the Cascade study.
“At this point, we can’t yet say that AI trumps double reading, but we can hope so,” she added.
As this study is still ongoing, it is possible for women between the ages of 50 and 74 who smoke a lot or who have already smoked a lot to take part in it and get tested in several towns in France. For this, you can contact 06.15.06.58.35 or send an email to [email protected].
