French Minister of Economy Bruno Le Maire considered that “it is possible that the European Union will develop within 5 years a generative artificial intelligence program of its own, which, in his opinion, will contribute to improving the productivity of the economy.”
“Generative AI will allow us, for the first time in many generations, to restore productivity and to be more efficient,” Le Maire told an audience of “Economic Encounters” in the south of France.
He added, “I therefore appeal, before laying the foundations for the regulation of artificial intelligence, that we innovate, invest and set ourselves the goal of developing a European open artificial intelligence program within 5 years. It is possible with the necessary computers, scientists and algorithms.” Le Maire stressed that “it is science that will finally allow us to achieve productivity gains in a rather weak European economy.”
