Artificial flowers no longer have their place on the graves of a cemetery in Port-Gentil (Town Hall) –

All plastics and other synthetics no longer have access to the graves of the municipal cemetery, located behind Gabon Télécom in the commune of Port-Gentil. In a press release, the Special Delegate in charge of the management of the commune of Port-Gentil, Lieutenant General Pierre Rizogo Rousselot, expressed his dissatisfaction with the massive use of wreaths of artificial flowers which “pollute the environment”.

“It has been noted for several years that the municipal cemetery located behind Gabon Télécom is in a deplorable state due to the artificial flowers used during burials and other celebrations”General Rizogo Rousselot was indignant.

This will also contribute to the progressive revegetation of graves, but above all to better waste management.

“In order to give it a special shine, users are asked during said ceremonies to only bring natural flowers,” he said in the press release.

The decision which will probably give rise to squeaking concerns for the moment only the cemetery located behind Gabon Télécom. It plans to expand in the coming months to other municipal cemeteries in the city of sand.

“A single bouquet of natural flowers containing three or four flowers can cost up to 10,000 FCFA, and to truly adorn the tombs of our deceased relatives, we would need around fifty or more which will be at the mercy of thieves like This is the case with artificial flowers which are stolen after the funeral to be resold ››denounces Antoinette Bignoumba, a citizen.

Like every year, this Friday, November 1, 2024, Gabon like other countries will celebrate All Saints’ Day. On this occasion, citizens clean the graves of their deceased parents who have become saints.
