Artbooster: Inspiring Young People and Unveiling the Advantages of Art as an Investment – Klagenfurt’s New Gallery

With the new gallery “Artbooster” in the city center of Klagenfurt, gallery owner Lisa-Marie Pirker not only wants to show the advantages of art as an investment, but also to inspire young people for the art world.

KLAGENFURT. Debbie Harry from Blondie, Lou Reed or Iggy Pop – in the new Artbooster gallery in downtown Klagenfurt there are photographic works of art by the most well-known rock musicians – taken by star photographer Mick Rock – alongside numerous works of art by international artists. Two photos – one from Kurt Cobain’s last photo shoot – by star photographer Jesse Frohman are also in Klagenfurt. The Pörtschach gallery owner and art dealer Lisa-Maria Pirker is responsible for this. “We don’t follow the usual concept of galleries, but want to create a living room atmosphere with Artbooster,” says Pirker. Everything revolves around the question: What can art look like at home?

art instead of fashion

The Pörtschach native chose a well-known address for her gallery in Klagenfurt: for several decades, the Sisley fashion boutique was located at Dr.-Arthur-Lemisch-Platz 1. International art now rules instead of Italian fashion. Pirker has been open since May, and the landlord’s last refurbishment work was completed in the last few weeks.

Worthwhile investments

On the first floor there is a large Nitsch that almost crushes you with its blackness. The colorful clay figures by the American artist Austyn Taylor create plenty of contrasts. “Like most artists, I discovered them on Instagram. I specifically select international artists who are currently being discovered by large galleries,” says Pirker. With the new gallery, she wants to promote the topic of “art as an investment object”. The art dealer is developing a concept with my tax consultant, among other things, that shows what tax advantages there are for art, and lectures are also planned.

Affordable art

Another focus: Young people should discover contemporary art. This is already the case in big cities – in Klagenfurt young people are still holding back. “Young people don’t want to collect old masters, they want someone who can grow with them – and of course the art should be affordable,” says Pirker. Therefore, Pirker with the Galerie developed a financing model for the purchase of art for young people.
