Vienna (OTS) – “Alfred Komarek was a writer through and through. He began writing for the newspaper and working for the radio as a young man, has written a wealth of popular non-fiction books about his favorite regions in Austria, the Weinviertel, the Waldviertel and the Wachau, and has written children’s books, features, feature articles, essays and screenplays. With ‘Polt Must Cry’ he started one of the most successful crime series of the last decades. His gendarmerie inspector Simon Polt is unique in contemporary crime fiction and a very special investigator who impresses with his leisurely, melancholic manner, his knowledge of human nature and his sense of justice. And he was also a gifted judge of character: Alfred Komarek, who has now passed away. My condolences go out to his family, his friends and his companions,” said Art and Culture State Secretary Andrea Mayer.

Alfred Komarek was awarded, among other things, the Austrian Cross of Honor for Science and Art, First Class.
